The Walnut Street Theatre, founded in 1809 and located in Philadelphia, PA is the oldest Theatre in America. With a seating capacity of just over 1,000 guests, the Walnut is the most subscribed theatre in the world. More recently, they are undergoing an expansion project themed “The Future Lives Here”.

Each year the Walnut Street Theatre puts on a Gala Concert, where all proceeds benefit their award-winning Arts Education Programs, which impact an average of 150,000 students, families, and teachers each year. And while this year’s show may look a bit different and be virtual, as they say, “The show must go on”. The 2020 Virtual Gala Concert, themed A Million Dreams will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 7:00 PM EST.

The Walnut Street Theatre’s education program has multiple outlets that can be utilized such as Theatre School, Camp Walnut, Touring Outreach, Residency Program, Adopt-A-School, Professional Apprenticeship, Theatre for Kids Series, Continuing Education, Education Report, as well as Disney Musicals in Schools.

The mission of the Walnut Street Theatre’s Education Program is: “To foster a love of learning about all aspects of theatre, to enrich the lives of children-particularly those living in poverty- and adults and their communities, to make theatre accessible to all and provide a means of participation in theatre to all, to build audiences for tomorrow, to infuse school with arts integrated curricula and to encourage the dreams of students young and old to use theatre as a vessel for creative expression, personal growth, skill attainment, and as a means to realize those dreams”.1
