Being prepared in advance is essential to help you replace contents and assure that your coverage will respond as you need it.

The Insurance Information Institute has an excellent tool to assist you. You can get it at www.knowyourstuff.org An APP is available for IPhones and Android and is free. It provides you with the ability to list your property room by room, assign values to property and photograph the items that you would need to replace after a fire, burglary or other devastating loss. Remember to estimate the value of the possessions at current prices. If all of it adds up to more than the amount that your policy provides, you would need to purchase extra coverage. Better to know the risk you face before a claim occurs, otherwise you may not have enough protection to replace your possessions that are destroyed. Performing an inventory may sound like a lot of work but you’ll need it when it comes time to file a claim.
