Spring is finally here. It’s time to get your home & yard ready. Here are a few tips to help you along!!!

Home
o Install new weather stripping on your windows and doors. Weather stripping is easy to install and will help you save on your energy bill
o Replace the A/C filter before the summer months. A new filter makes all the difference for keeping your unit running efficiently.
o Replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and check your fire extinguishers
o As you clean and organize your home, update your home inventory. If you don’t have one now is a great time to start one. There are applications that will help you along the way. Check out:
1. MyHOME.Scr.APP.book – This is a home inventory application that allows you to quickly capture images, descriptions, and serial numbers of your prized possessions. The app organizes information by room or by category and even creates a back-up file for email sharing. It is helpful in determining how much insurance you need and backup for filing a claim. The app also provides insurance “tips” from disaster preparedness to coverage information.
o Test all of your ceiling fans to make sure they are properly working. Give them a good cleaning while you’re at it. If you have spring allergies, the last thing you need is dust flying around your home.

Yard
o Clean your gutters and downspouts. Make sure you clear all the leaves and debris that have accumulated during the winter months.
o Trim back your trees and shrubs within 5 feet of your home.
o Check your roof for missing or damaged shingles. For your safety, hire a professional for any work that needs to be done
o Pressure wash your driveway, sidewalk, patio and any paved areas that have become dirty
o Test your outdoor light bulbs and change them as needed
